On My Wishlist- #1

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted by Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It's where I list all the books I desperately want but haven't actually bought yet. They can be old, new or forthcoming.

Expected Publication: June 14, 2011

I loved the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants series  and I'm really excited to learn what has happened to them as adults.

Summary:
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Ann Brashares comes the welcome return of the characters whose friendship became a touchstone for a generation. Now Tibby, Lena, Carmen, and Bridget have grown up, starting their lives on their own. And though the jeans they shared are long gone, the sisterhood is everlasting.

Despite having jobs and men that they love, each knows that something is missing: the closeness that once sustained them. Carmen is a successful actress in New York, engaged to be married, but misses her friends. Lena finds solace in her art, teaching in Rhode Island, but still thinks of Kostos and the road she didn’t take. Bridget lives with her longtime boyfriend, Eric, in San Francisco, and though a part of her wants to settle down, a bigger part can’t seem to shed her old restlessness.

Then Tibby reaches out to bridge the distance, sending the others plane tickets for a reunion that they all breathlessly await. And indeed, it will change their lives forever—but in ways that none of them could ever have expected.

As moving and life-changing as an encounter with long-lost best friends, Sisterhood Everlasting is a powerful story about growing up, losing your way, and finding the courage to create a new one.

Expected Publication: July 26, 2011

Anyone who has read Paranormalcy or at least my review for it knows that this book is going to be awesome and July is too far away.

Summary:  A lot has changed in the six months since Evie escaped from the International Paranormal Containment Agency with her shape-shifter boyfriend, Lend. She finally has the blissfully normal life she’s always dreamed of, including:
1) A real live high school
2) A perfectly ordinary after-school job
3) Her very own locker (and by the way, rusted metal is every bit as awesome as she imagined)

But Evie’s not-so-normal past keeps creeping up on her...and things get pretty complicated when you factor in:
1) A centuries-old, seriously decaying vampire stalker
2) A crazy faerie ex-boyfriend who is the perpetual bearer of really bad news
3) A major battle brewing between the faerie courts where the prize in question happens to be...Evie herself.

Expected Publication: September 6, 2011

For those of you who don't know I am in love with Will and so can't wait to spend more time with him in this follow up to Firelight. Plus this cover is so pretty!

Summary: To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.

Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?

In bestselling author Sophie Jordan’s dramatic follow-up to Firelight, forbidden love burns brighter than ever.

The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter

Summary (from Goodreads): It's always been just Kate and her mom—and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear her mother won't live past the fall.

Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld—and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.

Kate is sure he's crazy—until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride, and a goddess.
My Review:

WOW...My love for mythology started in the 7th grade when my English class spent nearly a whole semester learning nothing but Greek Mythology. So needless to say I was really excited about reading The Goddess Test. I'm really happy to day that I wasn't disappointed at all.

The plot was AMAZING. The prologue grabs your attention right away and it doesn't let go.  From the beginning you have so many questions and you want to know what is happening what has happened and what will happen. Theres is never a dull moment and you keep reading until the book is done and even then you keep thinking about the story.  Aimee Carter is an awesome writer and I love the way she tells this story. I can't wait to learn more about this world she has created. Kate's character was my favorite she is so strong and the stuff she goes through at the beginning  I could never handle.   The characters are all really well developed and I liked all of them except of course for the "bad guy". I loved the way the characters and story were all intertwined and how it came together at the end. The ending was a huge surprise for me and I loved it!

The Goddess Test is the first in a trilogy. The second book called Goddess Interrupted will be out February 2012 and the 3rd book doesn't have a title yet but will be out in late 2012. I personally think this is too far away but I will attempt to be patient.  If you want to learn more about the books and author check out Aimee Carter's website.

Since its starting to get hot out where I live this is going to be my first Beach Read suggestion of the summer. While there are a few sad parts there are alot  of fun moments as well. Don't forget to comment for extra entries in the contest for the book prize pack, which could contain this book, you can learn more here.

Die for Me by Amy Plum

Summary (from Goodreads): My life had always been blissfully, wonderfully normal. But it only took one moment to change everything.
Suddenly, my sister, Georgia, and I were orphans. We put our lives into storage and moved to Paris to live with my grandparents. And I knew my shattered heart, my shattered life, would never feel normal again. Then I met Vincent.
Mysterious, sexy, and unnervingly charming, Vincent Delacroix appeared out of nowhere and swept me off my feet. Just like that, I was in danger of losing my heart all over again. But I was ready to let it happen.
Of course, nothing is ever that easy. Because Vincent is no normal human. He has a terrifying destiny, one that puts his life at risk every day. He also has enemies . . . immortal, murderous enemies who are determined to destroy him and all of his kind.
While I'm fighting to piece together the remnants of my life, can I risk putting my heart—as well as my life and my family's—in jeopardy for a chance at love?
My Review:
I very rarely read e-books on my ipod (even though I have pretty much every e-reader app) because the screen is kind of small. Anyway I normally make it my personal mission to not leave the house without a book, but I failed a few days ago. However I had my ipod already loaded with my e-galleys from Netgalley so I was able to start Die for Me.

Once I started Die for Me I couldn't stop I sat and read the book in one sitting. I'm pretty sure that the imprint from my bedazzled case is permanently imprinted on my hand. The plot and characters where both so original. I love the idea of Revenants. The plot keeps the readers engaged the whole time because you don't want to miss what will happen next. There were a few times when the story was kinda predictable but the surprises in the rest of the book make up for it.

My favorite characters where Mami and Papi, their relationship is something that most people dream of. They were able to find true love really early in their life and it has lasted so many years. I do get the impression that there is more to them than meets the eye. I guess we will learn more about them in book 2.  Jules and Ambrose are really funny and I their characters are developed really well. Then there is the relationship between Kate and Vincent man oh man  it melted my socks off. I can't wait for the next book!

The official Release date is May 10, 2011. You can learn more about the book and Amy Plum's website. Don't forget to enter the contest and if you choose this book I will pre-order this book for you.

Personal Demons and Original Sin

Lisa Descrochers is having an awesome giveaway for No Reason! Check out her blog here for a chance to enter and read below to learn more about her books!

Frannie Cavanaugh is a good Catholic girl with a bit of a wicked streak. She has spent years keeping everyone at a distance—-even her closest friends—-and it seems as if her senior year is going to be more of the same . . . until Luc Cain enrolls in her class. No one knows where he came from, but Frannie can’t seem to stay away from him.
What she doesn’t know is that Luc is on a mission. He’s been sent from Hell itself to claim Frannie’s soul. It should be easy—-all he has to do is get her to sin, and Luc is as tempting as they come. Frannie doesn’t stand a chance. But he has to work fast, because if the infernals are after her, the celestials can’t be far behind. And sure enough, it’s not long before the angel Gabriel shows up, willing to do anything to keep Luc from getting what he came for. It isn’t long before they find themselves fighting for more than just Frannie’s soul.
But if Luc fails, there will be Hell to pay . . . for all of them.

(Release: July 5, 2011)

Luc Cain was born and raised in Hell, but he isn’t feeling as demonic as usual lately—thanks to Frannie Cavanaugh and the unique power she never realized she had. But you can’t desert Hell without consequences, and suddenly Frannie and Luc find themselves targeted by the same demons who used to be Luc’s allies.
Left with few options, Frannie and Luc accept the protection of Heaven and one of its most powerful angels, Gabe. Unfortunately, Luc isn’t the only one affected by Frannie, and it isn’t long before Gabe realizes that being around her is too…tempting. Rather than risk losing his wings, he leaves Frannie and Luc under the protection of her recently-acquired guardian angel.
Which would be fine, but Gabe is barely out the door before an assortment of demons appears—and they’re not leaving without dragging Luc back to Hell with them. Hell won’t give up and Heaven won’t give in. Frannie’s guardian exercises all the power he has to keep them away, but the demons are willing to hurt anyone close to Frannie in order to get what they want. It will take everything she has and then some to stay out of Hell’s grasp.
And not everyone will get out of it alive.

Enclave by Ann Aguirre

Summary (from Goodreads): New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20's. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters—or Freaks—who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. And when Deuce and Fade are exiled from the enclave, the girl born in darkness must survive in daylight, in the ruins of a city whose population has dwindled to a few dangerous gangs. As the two are guided by Fade’s long-ago memories, they face dangers, and feelings, unlike any they’ve ever known.

My Review:

When I picked Enclave up from the store I didn't really know what it was about just that it was a YA dystopian novel. I had just heard about Enclave a few days before its release day and my first reaction was I like that cover I think I might read that. Then on release day  of Enclave a blogger that I follow said something along the lines of Enclave must have crack in the pages because I can't stop reading it. I went that same day to the store and got a copy. I started it and finished it that same night and omg I agree with the blogger who made that comment Enclave was amazing.  I have been reading alot of Dystopia novels lately and I thought I would be tired of them by now but I'm not I still can't get enough of them. Deuce is among my top 3 favorite Dystopia heroines so far.

The plot of Enclave is amazing, its dark and twisty and adventures. This is the first book in the Razorland series and I can't wait to learn about this world. I like the way that the book ended giving us a little bit of hope. There are still alot of things that we have to learn about this world. Its very possible that I may take up stalking Ann Aguirre because I'm not sure if I can wait for the next book. I may also make it a point to become the president of her fan club and if it helps my campaign I have already made 3 friends read this book and they loved it too.

The next book is called Outpost and the expected release date is Fall 2012. Ann Aguirre also has two sci-fi/fantasy series; the Sirantha Jax series which has 4 books and the Corine Solomon series which has 3 books so far. I actually purchased Blue Diablo the first in the Corine Solomon series which will be featured in the UF/PR weekends soon. She also writes under the name Ava Gray and fans of paranormal romance suspense should check it out.

Don't forget to comment for extra entries in the contest for a chance to possibly win a copy of this. Check out the contest here.

Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton

Summary (from Goodreads): This debut, the first novel in a trilogy, is achingly romantic, terrifying, and filled with blistering action.

When seventeen-year-old Ellie starts seeing reapers - monstrous creatures who devour humans and send their souls to Hell - she finds herself on the front lines of a supernatural war between archangels and the Fallen and faced with the possible destruction of her soul.

A mysterious boy named Will reveals she is the reincarnation of an ancient warrior, the only one capable of wielding swords of angelfire to fight the reapers, and he is an immortal sworn to protect her in battle. Now that Ellie's powers have been awakened, a powerful reaper called Bastian has come forward to challenge her. He has employed a fierce assassin to eliminate her - an assassin who has already killed her once.

While balancing her dwindling social life and reaper-hunting duties, she and Will discover Bastian is searching for a dormant creature believed to be a true soul reaper. Bastian plans to use this weapon to ignite the End of Days and to destroy Ellie's soul, ending her rebirth cycle forever. Now, she must face an army of Bastian's most frightening reapers, prevent the soul reaper from consuming her soul, and uncover the secrets of her past lives - including truths that may be too frightening to remember.

My Review:
So I work in a bookstore and normally I'm on top of any new YA books we get in the store. Even when I'm not there when we get a shipment of books my co-worker peeps will be like "Hey Elaina did you see this new YA book we got in?" I don't know how but Angelfire slipped into the store without me seeing it for about a week.  When I found it I had a complete fangirl meltdown because I had been hearing so many great things about this book and I couldn't wait to read it.

The first thing that drew me to Angelfire was the cover which is amazing. The cover just screams look at me I'm a girl who can kick butt and take names; plus that sword looks crazy awesome. CAM jumps right into the story and once you start it you don't want to stop.  Ellie's character is so great, she could have easily been a spoiled and predictable character but i'm so glad that she wasn't. There are many issues with her father that i'm so glad CAM put in the book because its something that many families deal with and they don't know how to handle it. The issues weren't resolved in this book but i'm sure we will find out more in the next book. I think that Will is an amazing protector and I kinda want to steal him and lock him away in my basement.

The plot of Angelfire is really strong there aren't any boring parts its just nonstop action. After reading this book and a few others I think that my favorite paranormal characters (i guess thats what I should call them) are reapers. I haven't exactly figured out why yet but I just do. Angelfire doesn't just center on reapers either but it also has the fallen angel aspect which seriously you can't go wrong with. Then the ending was so very intense and I was just in shock because seriously I wasn't expecting what happened.

So if you haven't read Angelfire you should right now, not tomorrow or the next day but this very second. Below you can check out the trailer and if you want to learn more about Courtney Allison Moulton you can check out her website. The next book is going to be called Wings of the Wicked (love the title) and will be released sometime in 2012(so far away *sad face*). If you don't have your own copy yet then you should enter my contest and you can pick it as one of the books that you want if you win. The contest info is here.

In My Mailbox- April 17,2011

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren. This week I bought a bunch of books. I'd like to say Thank You to Genna at Reading, Writing, and the World of Words. I won a $15 giftcard to Amazon from her during the Fools for Books Giveaway hop and thats how I was able to get a few of these.

All of the books that I bought are Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance. These are all the first in a few series that I have heard alot about and I can't wait to get started on. I have decided to start a new feature at the blog. I love to read YA but sometimes I venture out into PR and UF and I want to tell my readers about the books that I am reading. So the weekends are going to be dedicated to reviews for which ever UF or PR books I read during the week. Since some of these books may not have things that are appropriate for younger readers I am going to say at the very beginning of the review if there is any sexual contents and what not. Also I'm going to add an extra link in review so everyone will probable see the picture of the book and the warning and summary of the book. Then if you decide that you want to read the review you can click on the button to go to the review and rating.

There are two weeks before the end of my contest. Please spread the word! Also next week I'm going to participate in my first blog hop for Easter, it will be open for International readers so look out for that.

What did everyone else get in their mailbox this week?

Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting

Summary (from Goodreads): The missing dead call to Violet. They want to be found.
Violet can sense the echoes of those who've been murdered—and the matching imprint that clings to their killers. Only those closest to her know what she is capable of, but when she discovers the body of a young boy she also draws the attention of the FBI, threatening her entire way of life.

As Violet works to keep her morbid ability a secret, she unwittingly becomes the object of a dangerous obsession. Normally she'd turn to her best friend, Jay, except now that they are officially a couple, the rules of their relationship seem to have changed. And with Jay spending more and more time with his new friend Mike, Violet is left with too much time on her hands as she wonders where things went wrong. But when she fills the void by digging into Mike's tragic family history, she stumbles upon a dark truth that could put everyone in danger.

My Review:

Desires of the Dead is the 2nd book in The Body Finders series, the fist being The Body Finder. Desires of the Dead is a paranormal mystery book. Violet character is awesome I love the way she speaks her mind and how brave she can be in situations that I know would freak me out. I was also excited about the new characters especially Rafe, whose name I think is awesome! I was really sad that we didn't get to learn more about him but the air of mystery that Kimberly Derting put around him I'm sure that he is someone we will see more of in the next books. The plot was great  mystery/suspense plus a hint of paranormal and a little romance.   The only thing I didn't like about the book was the time that Violet spent complaining about Jay's new friendship with Mike and her jealousy over it.

Don't forget to comment for extra entries into the contest.

Almost to Die for by Tate Hallaway

Summary (from Goodreads) : Twilight meets The Princess Diaries in the new series from the author of Honeymoon of the Dead
On her sixteenth birthday, Anastasija Parker learns that her so-called deadbeat dad is actually a vampire king. And he wants Ana to assume her rightful position at his side, in spite of the fact that she has witch's blood running through her veins-from her mother's side.

Too bad witches and vampires are mortal enemies. And now Ana's parents are at each other's throats over her future. It's up to Ana to make a choice, but deciding your eternal destiny is a pretty big deal for a girl who just wants to get through high school.
My Review:
First I have to say that I love both Twilight and Princess Diaries so how could I not want to read something with a description like that. This is another book that kept me up all night till I finished it. I love when I can sit and finish a book in one sitting. Almost to die for is a light, fun and quick read. I really enjoyed Ana's character she is so strong willed and funny. I loved the way she took charge and decided what she did and didn't want to do. Ana was kept in the dark most of her life about her true heritage. A perk to this is that the read learns about everything as she learns. I like to learn new thing with the character instead of the character already knowing all of these things and having to stop and explain everything to the reader.
The plot of this story is fast and fun and really well written. After reading this and the past few books that i've read I have decided that I'm going to have to write a book about all of my book boy crushes. Right now I'm a little torn but as of this moment I am Team Elias even thought I do like Nikolai. I could change my mind after the next book but we will see.

The next book is called Almost Final Curtain and will be released May 3, 2011, so if you haven't read this one yet you should. I'm going to read Almost Final Curtain tonight and should have a review up tomorrow.

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Summary (from Goodreads): Evie’s always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she’s falling for a shape-shifter, and she’s the only person who can see through paranormals’ glamours.

But Evie’s about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.

My Review:

I picked up a copy of Paranormalcy because I loved the cover. Once I started the book I was hooked. Evie's character is so awesome, I love how strong and take charge she is. There are still lots of thing that we don't know about her ability's and I can't wait to find out more in the second book. Lend is a shape-shifter who breaks into the International Paranormal Containment Agency and shortly after that all hell breaks loose. His abilities are just as mysterious as Evie's and through out the book we learn a little more about him. Paranormalcy is full of action and a new take on the paranormal world that has become so popular in YA fiction. The plot was amazing and just kept moving along without any lapses in action. There were also a few sad parts which I won't talk about because I don't want to put in any spoilers.

Paranrmalcy is a must read for any fans of Paranormal fiction. The next book called Supernaturally and the expected publication date is July 26, 2011. It's at the top of my wish list and I can't wait for July to be here.

Don't forget to comment and enter the contest here for a chance to win a copy of this.

My guilty pleasure is Netflix.  I love to watch things instantly and I actually have netflix connected to most of the devices in my house. I have it on my Ipod Touch, on my computer and on my Wii. I can spend hours just sitting around watching shows and movies. When Grey's Anatomy got added to the Instant shows I spent days in front of my computer watching it. I am slowly converting everyone I know into Netflix addicts. Right now I'm watching season 1 of Glee..which is awesome! If you haven't tried it you definitely should.

Does anyone else have a Netflix addiction? Feel free to suggestions new shows for me to watch. =)
